This is Gary Shanock's hand built Ram Air intake. His project won Most Innovative Mod at KC98.

Gary's instructions on his ram air intake:

Remove battery, fender liner, fender, vacuum ball and battery tray. Battery must be relocated. I used a Black Panther battery on a late model Suburban tray and dropped it down to where the vacuum ball was. To build the airbox thin aluminum sheeting was used. Make the box just large enough that the filter can be inserted and removed when the box is mounted. The top of the box is a separate piece which can be removed to access the filter. The box needs a hole on the fender end that corresponds to the opening in the fender. It mounts to the fender using existing bolt holes. Opposite this opening is an opening through which a pipe fits connecting the air filter to the orange intake hose. This hose must be clocked 90 degrees to line up with the airbox. Bend the AC lines slightly (carefully) to do this. The fender need two plates put in to baffle the intake duct from air in the rest of the fender. One goes vertically behind the scoop, the other goes horizontally below the scoop. They can be painted to match the fender and riveted or screwed into place. The scoop is from a Nissan 280-ZX Turbo hood, drivers side. It was cut to fit the available space then bonded to the inside of the fender with Corvette metal to plastic adhesive. The sheet metal of the outside of the fender needs to be cut on three sides. Then the metal can be pushed back onto the surface of the scoop and bonded on the upper and lower edges where it meets. Paint the fender when done. Reassemble.
